Black Diamond Vs Black Moissanite – Know the Gem?

Black diamond Vs Black Moissanite, Is Moissanite new term for you? most of the geologists know what it is. So if you are still unaware of what it is? We are gonna learn it in this Blog.

WHAT IS BLACK MOISSANITE? IS IT A BLACK DIAMOND?

just tell me which one of below is real diamond and which one is moissanite.

black diamond vs black moissanite?

The first picture is Natural Black diamond and the second one is Synthetic Black Moissanite

Black moissanite is just too much perfect because most of it is synthetic in nature. But as black diamonds are earth mined- they are not perfect. The black diamond is not free from defects like gray-white-brown & other color inclusions. Very few real black diamonds are perfectly black and that is the reason why they fetch huge prices similar to certified white diamonds.

Moissanite is simply a man-made Diamond Look-A-Like!

The first time I ever come across Moissanite was about 8 years ago.

A customer brought in their “Diamond” Engagement Ring saying to fix it at our jewelry house.

Our professional team did looping the Ring carefully and tested the stone with a normal Diamond Tester. It was tested as Diamond, but experts are still not convinced.

He kept looking at it from all different angles, even upside down. The stone just didn’t look appropriate although tester showed Red light and the Beep sound, still, he is not convinced.

The optical properties were different, the color was off, the way the stone handled light was odd. He presented the stone to the other Jewelers which was followed by confusion, discussions, and opinions.

The Result is here!

“This is NOT a Diamond!”

It was later determined that the stone in question was in fact, a Moissanite!

it wasn’t a real Diamond! but a synthetic fake thing as 99.98% moissanite are synthetic in nature now. When we told the real truth about the stone, the customer looked really embarrassed. after we convinced him using our in depth knowledge in diamonds and also show the certification from the jeweler.

We have come a long way till then in testing any gem that looks like a black diamonds. And we like to tell you the fact that any gem is sold as natural black diamonds. and if its selling price is priced at less than USD 50 per Carat or less is a big Question mark in its integrity to be a natural black diamond (enhanced).

What is Moissanite?

Moissanite is indeed a Natural, Genuine Stone that is so rare in Nature that only a few small pieces still exist. First discovered in Canyon Diablo in a Meteorite in 1893 by one Dr. Henri Moissan, who at the time mistook the stone for Diamond. It was discovered later to be a new mineral similar to Diamond, but at the same time, awfully different in many, many ways!

Let’s get a couple of things straight about Moissanite…

Moissanite is not a Diamond and not even a Diamond Alternative! Nor a brand name for a Diamond!

Moissanite is a Genuine Stone, but so rare that it can’t even be used for Jewellery! (That’s where Created Moissanite steps in) Moissanite is made of Silicon Carbide. (Diamond is made of 100% pure Carbon.) Moissanite on the Mohs Scale of Hardness is 9.25 (Diamond is a 10. CZ is 9). 99% of the moissanite that sales in any jewelry store are synthetic in nature.

Moissanite was often identified as treated black diamonds by Electronic diamond testers. it causes concern to consumers who thought they have had black diamonds. if the tester was designed to separate the diamond from moissanite based on electric conductivity, this can definitely happen. However, color-treated black diamonds become electrical conductive during the process that enhances their color. As a result, jewelers sometimes mystify the color-treated stones.

So how do you determine if a black diamond is a real diamond or a moissanite? Although diamond testers identify colorless moissanite, they don’t take precise readings of any colored moissanite. Because of neither natural color black diamond nor Black Moissanite’s test as a moissanite on the electronic testers. So you must check a few things. 1.what the supplier deals in as main product 2. check the certification of reputed lab 3. You can use a diamond scriber to check one of the facets and last 4.even you can use a high-quality diamond tester like Presidium-III.
